Layer It Up

Leverick Bay Cream by Kaleen Broadloom +
Taupe Long Wool Sheepskin by Fibre by Auskin

I love the combination of a flatweave layered with a sheepskin. When going for warm and cozy, this is the winning combination because when winter months are over you can store the sheepskin. Flatweaves are ideal because you can do a contrasting or tone-on-tone border. The Leverick Bay Cream from Kaleen comes in a wider width, so there are less issues with seams in larger spaces.

Sink Your Feet In

Horizon in Ivory by Antrim

This adds a gorgeous textural element to a space but is definitely best in low traffic spaces. I would use this as an area rug on a hardwood floor in a bedroom and pair with a dramatic upholstered headboard and bed frame. The big chunky texture is tempered by the organic stripe in between, which adds subtle pattern to your space. Note that this selection is not ideal for families with pets.

Carpet is not a place you want to be trendy. Think of it like a base coat, and a workhorse. Add trendier elements by layering throw pillows or a coat of paint.

Best of Both Worlds

Moonraker by Hereford Imports + Gwyneth Boucle Chair by CB2

The most comfortable spaces are those that you don’t have to worry about. This carpet from Hereford Imports is an indoor/outdoor material that’s made from recycled PET polymer which means it’s incredibly durable, stain resistant and easily cleaned. I love the unexpected combination of low and high with a hand-loomed geometric design combined with a raised, thicker pile. It gives great definition and texture to a space. Ideal for kid’s rooms, a basement entertainment space or dining room. I would love to pair it with this CB2 Gwyneth Boucle Chair.

Wall-to-Wall Luxury

Jamestown by Kaleen Broadloom

This is my pick for wall-to-wall carpet. It’s an incredibly luxurious moment underfoot because of the thick, loop pile. I love the cream color because it’s not too yellow or too white. The texture is so sumptuous it would pair well with a neutral color palette. Because it’s so thick I wouldn’t layer anything else on top of it…just let it be the star of the show.

Aztec is truly the premier carpet and rug company in this region. I only work with them because the product is excellent and the service is unparalleled. They handle everything from start to finish which means that from the moment I walk in the door through installation and beyond, they take care of me. I truly can’t recommend them more highly. Everyone should be working with Jim, Kevin & the Aztec team —Ramey Caulkins, Griffin Design Source
